The Lake Hodges Native Plant Club's main project involves the Wild Animal Park's California Nativescapes Botanical Garden which opened to the public in 1991. At the request of the Park's Horticulture Department, LHNPC agreed to plan and maintain the garden which is divided into several native plant communities.
The Wild Animal Park has assisted by providing shade shelters, drinking fountains and educational signs but LHNPC does the extensive record-keeping requisite for a Botanical Garden.
Club members continue to be responsible for planting, watering, weeding, trail construction, etc. Volunteers are encouraged to join Wednesday or Saturday morning groups. (Contact dfrisbie@cts.com)
Guided tours (included in Park Admission) are given 2nd Saturday of each March, April and May.
The club meets on the 4th Monday of every month at the Rancho Bernardo Library, Rancho Bernardo (except July & Aug).
